Liverpool agree £48m deal to sign Naby Keita; medical completed

Liverpool have topped off an exceptional week for the club by securing a deal for one of their priority transfer targets.

The Reds have agreed a club-record £48million deal in advance to sign RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita, with the Guinean set to officially join the club in July 2018 having completed his medical on Monday morning.

Keita has boasted a place high on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist this summer, with the Reds boss keen to bolster the spine of his team with the 22-year-old’s all-action qualities.

Liverpool had hoped to secure a deal for him in the current transfer window, but saw their persistent efforts blocked by Leipzig, who have stood firm with an insistence that he would not be sold for any price this month.

The clubs have, evidently, come to an arrangement that will see Klopp get his man for significantly less than the £70million the Bundesliga club were supposedly demanding.

News of the agreement comes amid speculation linking Monaco’s Thomas Lemar to an Anfield switch, with Liverpool having reportedly bid £55.5million for the Frenchman.

Here’s the excitement Reds were hoping for.
