LFC skipper: What I thought when I saw Naby Keita play…

Jordan Henderson has waxed lyrical about our current record signing Naby Keita, the man who officially joined yesterday for £55m.

The 22-year-old will arrive properly next summer though, after Rb Leipzig insisted on keeping him this campaign – for their debut outing in the Champions League.

We already have the likes of Henderson, Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana and hopefully Coutinho and Thomas Lemar competing for midfield spots this season – but Keita has the potential to become the most important of Liverpool’s central options in 2018/19.

He could even end up taking Henderson’s spot in the team, but the captain’s not worried!

“If you play for top teams you are going to sign good players,” the Reds skipper told ESPN. “I have seen Naby play quite a few times and he looks a top, top player.

“There have been a lot of transfer rumours over the summer and thankfully we ended up doing the business.

“Okay, he comes next year, but I am sure the club are delighted to get him because he will be a real addition to the squad and will hopefully help us over the next few years.”

It would be brilliant if Keita had joined the group this term, but it’s better to have secured his signature now than wait 12 months and face losing out on him to one of Europe’s superpowers.

Barcelona actually went in for him at the last minute, but wonderfully, were informed that he was already in Liverpool undergoing a medical!

If that’s not poetic justice for the manner in which they’ve rustled Coutinho all summer, we don’t know what is!
