Bad news, Reds: Virgil van Dijk is probably not signing for Liverpool

Posted by

The transfer window shuts in exactly 12 hours time, but unless something drastic happens, it doesn’t look like Virgil van Dijk is on his way to Liverpool.

He’s been the priority target since June, but ever since our apology following the illegal approach and subsequent ‘withdrawal of interest’, we’ve not been prepared to make an offer unless Southampton openly indicated they’d be willing to accept one.

But the Saints have remained stubborn in their refusal to sell, despite the Dutchman’s transfer request, and on deadline day, nothing has changed. In many ways, the situation mirrors Barcelona’s pursuit of Coutinho: No matter what money is on the table, there’ll be no sale due to principle.

Sky Sports are reporting on their live deadline show that Southampton have reminded them van Dijk’s not going anywhere and no offers will be considered – while Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph tweeted to his followers this morning that they should not get their hopes up.

What’s more, SaintsWeb forum user Tom28, whose called the entire saga correctly before respected journalists this summer, has indicated that the move is off:

“He is staying I’m told. No acceptable bids are expected today. Be interesting too see how this plays out over the next few weeks and months.

“Expect one incoming to get over the line today.

“Happy Transfer deadline day.”

UPDATE:

Sky Sports are reporting that van Dijk has left Southampton’s training ground in a blacked out car…

FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
