It’s not often we see Phil Neville speaking sense, but last night, the former Manchester United and Everton player came out in support of Jordan Henderson – who for some ridiculous reason – often bears the brunt of England fan rage.
Our skipper also now captains Gareth Southgate’s side, but on Twitter, there’s an agenda against him – despite the fact he rarely lets his country down and leads by example in terms of aggression, passion and effort.
Neville thinks that Henderson deserved the Man of the Match award after the 2-1 victory over Slovakia and reckons he’s the obvious candidate for full-time captain going forward.

We probably shouldn’t care too much about what teenagers online think of our captain. Yes, he’s not Steven Gerrard – but what midfielders in the history of the game actually are?
Jurgen Klopp, Brendan Rodgers and Southgate immediately considered him captain material and England are waltzing to World Cup qualification.
Perhaps he should be properly judged after he leads his country out in Russia next year…
