At the moment, negotiations over an extension have stalled because Can wants a release-clause inserted into the new deal and Liverpool do not want to give one.
It’s not about his weekly wage, thankfully.
At EOTK, we’d encourage Liverpool to give Can what he wants, providing the release-clause is very hefty.
Considering the current state of the transfer window, something around £70m wouldn’t be unreasonable for a 23-year-old in the form of his life.
Granted, we still wouldn’t want to lose Can, but losing him for that kind of monumental profit next summer is a far better option than losing him for free.
