Klopp gives intriguing Salah update as Egyptian misses training

Jurgen Klopp has issued a mixed update on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian missed Tuesday’s training session due to illness.

It now remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s summer signing will be available for Wednesday night’s Champions League group stage opener against Sevilla at Anfield.

The Reds boss has revealed that Salah arrived for training, but was quickly sent home as a precaution given the uncertainty over his condition.

In his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “Mo, we sent him home tonight.”

“He was in and the doc told me Mo Salah can train, but what would be best for him is if he doesn’t have to. He has a little bit of a sore throat. Shouldn’t be too serious.”

“We expect him back for normal training tomorrow morning.”

Salah’s absence would be a blow to Liverpool after his impressive start to life on Merseyside, although the Reds look set to have a worthy replacement in the form of Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian is expected to make his first appearance for the club this season having been sidelined with a back injury amid his pursuit of a summer move to Barcelona.

Sadio Mane will also be available, with his suspension after Saturday’s red card against Manchester City not applying to the Champions League.

It seems Salah will be a late decision.
