Klopp confirms horrible injury news ahead of Leicester clash

Liverpool could start against Leicester City with the same central defensive pairing as we did on Tuesday: Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan.

That’s because Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren are a doubt for Saturday’s trip to the King Power, the same venue as our midweek Carabao Cup humbling.

What’s more, Emre Can is struggling from an issue picked up during the Burnley draw and is no guarantee either.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed as much in his pre-match presser today:

“It’s nothing major for Dejan but it’s been enough to keep him out of the past two games,” the boss told the Echo.

“He’s not in training so he’s a doubt for the weekend and that’s not too cool.

“It’s a completely different situation but Joel Matip and Emre Can also have little bits from the last game so we have to see. Hopefully they will be back in training today or tomorrow but we have to wait.”

When players aren’t training on the Thursday, it’s very rare under Klopp that they play at the weekend…

As a result, Trent Alexander-Arnold should replace Jon Flanagan at right-back, with Gomez keeping his spot alongside Klavan.

Without Can, Jordan Henderson should anchor the team, with Coutinho to his left and one of Gini Wijnaldum or James Milner to the right.

Let’s hope it’s enough to beat the Foxes, as another defeat will undeniably put Liverpool into a crisis.
