Daniel Sturridge was very poor today, before being subbed off with twenty minutes remaining against Newcastle, the team he’s scored the most goals against in his career.
Jurgen Klopp said the forward had earned his start due to excellent form in training, but whatever he’s done at Melwood didn’t translate to anything of note at St. James’ Park.

He lacked spark, but most damningly, missed a gilt-edged chance to give us the lead. On multiple occasion he was caught unnecessarily offside, too.
If Roberto Firmino is fit in two weeks’ time, the Brazilian is a certainty to start against Manchester United after the international break.
Today, Liverpool missed his energy and creativity in the final third.
Klopp gave Sturridge a chance today, but he wasted it.
