‘I liked it more than the goals’ Klopp analyses best thing about 7-0 thumping

Jurgen Klopp was beaming like a cheshire cat in his post-match interview this evening.

Liverpool obliterated Maribor 7-0 in Slovenia to send us top of our Champions League group.

It’s the biggest away win for an English side in European history and the biggest under Klopp since he took over.

Goals from Salah (2), Firmino (2), Coutinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexander-Arnold sealed the win, with Maribor heading to Anfield in two weeks’ time.

Klopp praised his team’s attitude, but started giggling with delight when he moved on to discussing our counter-pressing!

“Did you see the counter pressing?” he began. “Wow..” I think I liked the counter-pressing more than the goals. I almost started celebrating on the touchline at the counter-pressing!” he told BT Sport after the game.

And he’s spot on. Our ability to win the ball back in midfield and spark attacks was exceptional. It was why we managed to create so many chances. Maribor were poor, but we were simply too good.

Tonight was Klopp’s heavy-metal football at its best – both off and on the ball.

Hopefully, we can show this kind of level at Wembley against Spurs at the weekend.

Bring it on!
