Barcelona take new step in Coutinho pursuit… meeting scheduled with agent

Barcelona are showing no signs of dropping their interest in signing Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

Likewise, the Spanish press are showing no signs of letting Barcelona drop their interest in the Brazilian.

Having seen three bids rejected over the summer and Coutinho’s transfer request come to no avail, the La Liga club look set to return for their man when the window re-opens in January.

A meeting between Barcelona, Coutinho and his agent Kiavash Joorabchian is set to take place next week, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Given the nonsense reports that emerged from Spain during the summer, Reds have every reason to dismiss suggestions that club and player are scheduled to meet.

Owners Fenway Sports Group haven’t altered their stance that Coutinho is not for sale, and are unlikely to do so half way through a season in which there are high expectations at the club.

An eventual move to the Nou Camp undoubtedly remains on the back of Coutinho’s mind, although he has performed admirably and without distraction since returning to action.

With Barcelona’s highest offer in the summer being worth up to £118million, Liverpool will feel they are in a strong position to play hard ball.

As is stands, supporters can expect to see Coutinho at Anfield beyond the January deadline.
