Liverpool’s Likely XI with no Coutinho: Ox finally unleashed

If Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can’t get a start on Saturday with Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana all out, he might as well ask for a loan deal in January.

As there truly would have been no point in signing him for £35m on deadline day.

Today, we were given the unfortunate news that our Brazilian playmaker is struggling with an abductor strain and is unlikely to start v Huddersfield tomorrow.

Not exactly the news we need when two of our other best attackers are still absent.

We hope that Oxlade-Chamberlain will get the start in Coutinho’s position on the left, making up the front-three with Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

In midfield, Gini Wijnaldum can replace James Milner alongside Jordan Henderson and Emre Can.

At the back, we think Dejan Lovren will drop to the bench, enabling Trent Alexander-Arnold a return to the XI. This means Joe Gomez could be finally given the opportunity to play in his favoured central defensive position. Alberto Moreno has been first-choice left-back all season, while Loris Karius could come in for Simon Mignolet between the sticks after last weekend’s horror-show.

It doesn’t look especially formidable on paper, but surely this side should have enough to down David Wagner’s visiting outfit…?
