Jurgen Klopp signed Mo Salah on the frantic recommendation of Liverpool’s scouting network, including sporting director Michael Edwards.
Mane makes exciting Salah prediction
We acquired the Egyptian flyer from Roma for what’s looking like an increasingly bargain £36m.
Already this term, Salah has 12 goals in 17 starts – an outstanding return from a striker, let alone a winger.
“We were sure he can help us. Michael Edwards, Dave Fallows and Barry [Hunter], they were really in my ear and were on it: ‘Come on, come on, Mo Salah, he’s the solution!’,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.
“When you have 20 players on the table, different players, it’s difficult to make an early decision, but we all were convinced about it so could make the early decision so we could really get him. He’s a fantastic person, a nice lad and a really good football player.
“I didn’t think if he can score 12 goals or whatever in 17 games [but] I hope he’s not finished now!
“That would be nice, if we talk after the season about different numbers – and both numbers should be much higher.”
We’d now be very surprised if Salah didn’t break 20 goals for the campaign, although the way he’s currently going, he’ll have hit that mark by Christmas!
Already, he’s easily doubled his transfer value, although in reality, Liverpool wouldn’t accept an offer of £100m right now.
At 25-years-old, he’s about to enter his three to four peak years – and we’re delighted we’re the lucky benefactors.
Alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino up top, Salah forms maybe the most exciting frontline in the Premier League – bar perhaps Manchester City’s.
If we can shore up the defence consistently, we should be able to catch our rivals soon.
