Michael Owen has pinned a tweet to his account which responds to the negativity he’s been receiving from Liverpool fans this week.
Our former striker appeared on French TV last week thanking Karim Benzema for moving to Real Madrid, as it allowed him his switch to Manchester United.
To Liverpool fans, this is not appropriate for a Liverpool FC ambassador and there’s been endless calls for him to resign.
Owen though has claimed the fact his first choice was returning to Anfield on every occasion proves he does ‘love’ the club and he shouldn’t be criticised for choosing someone else when we rejected him.
I've been reading the usual hateful messages about me playing for Man Utd.
Once again and for the avoidance of doubt:
I love @LFC and before every move since I left I tried to go back. It never happened and so I had to continue my career by signing for other clubs.— Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) November 14, 2017
The truth is, we’re not angry at Owen for playing elsewhere or furthering his career – we’re angry at him for signing for Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.
How did he ever think this would be swept under the carpet?
Nobody who truly loves Liverpool would sign for United. End of.
