Liverpool’s win against Southampton was our fourth in a row of three goals or more in all competitions.
Believe it or not, that hasn’t happened since 1980, when Bob Paisley was at the helm.
Ged Rea highlighted the fact on Twitter:
@LFC won by 3 goals for a 4th successive game yesterday. The last time they achieved it was more than 37 years ago when they beat Swindon (5-0), Brighton (4-1), Oulu (10-1) and Man City (3-0). (Sept-Oct 1980)

Our run has included 3-0 wins over Huddersfield and Maribor, a 4-1 thrashing of West Ham and the 3-0 win against Southampton – which in footballing terms – was probably our best performance.
Huddersfield and Maribor were monstrously defensive and the matches were fairly stale, in truth, while West Ham capitulated and it was pretty easy.
Against Southampton though, the whole team clicked.
Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren were solid, Jordan Henderson controlled the midfield and wasn’t afraid to move the ball forward – while our much lauded attackers Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah purred.
If these four can stay fit, along with the return of Adam Lallana, Liverpool will have a very good season. It’s just a shame we’ve given ourselves so many points to catch up.
