Journno reveals why Luis Suarez has seemingly lost his magic

Luis Suarez has not hit his usual meteoric heights this season.

In fairness, Barcelona are still top of La Liga and will win their Champions League group, so he’s perhaps playing ‘well enough’ – but the stats suggest he’s on the decline.

Despite playing alongside Lionel Messi, our former striker has just five goals in 15 appearances, quite poor considering he scored 37 and 59 goals in his past two seasons.

According to ESPN pundit Paul Mariner, who watches Barcelona’s games closely, the manager Ernesto Valverde is very worried by Suarez’s recent performances.

Mariner has explained that in his eyes, Suarez no longer possesses the unbelievable match fitness that has made him one of the world’s best strikers for the past five years.

“It seems that Barcelona are playing so there are 4-4-2 with (Lionel) Messi just dropping in to making it a five,” Mariner told the Star.

“Yeah I was concerned about him (Suarez) today, he didn’t look sharp.

“Some of the people that I’ve been reading about, they have been moaning about him being offside too much.

“But that’s how he plays his football, he plays on the shoulder.

“Sometimes he gets away with it and sometimes he doesn’t get away with it. He didn’t get away with it today.

“He doesn’t look physically fit to me. Look, he’s still horrible to play against but I’ll tell you what, he doesn’t look right.”

For us, we’re pretty sure Suarez will find his best level again. He’s only 30 and crucially has never relied on pace to perform – the reason Cristiano Ronaldo is visibly waning this term.

If Barca don’t want him though, we’d take him back at Anfield in a second. Not only for his goalscoring ability, but his fight and determination.

We lack that nastiness and under Jurgen Klopp, Suarez could pick up that Premier League title he never managed the first time!
