The news has finally been confirmed by reputable sources that Liverpool will sell Coutinho to Barcelona, providing an outrageous offer is submitted.
Previously, only Spanish outlets had claimed Liverpool would sell, with the local journalists close to our club stating FSG’s policy was still ‘Not For Sale’.
Now though, Melissa Reddy in Goal has claimed that our Brazilian will be allowed his dream transfer, having turned down a massive contract increase from the club.
His family are desperate for him to move to Barcelona, and there’s a chance it could happen this January, despite the fact he’d be cup-tied in the Champions League.
For us, it would be crazy to weaken ourselves so significantly mid-season and seriously hope the club agree some sort of deal where our no.10 heads to Camp Nou in the summer instead.
That way, Phil can try to leave Anfield with some silverware and we can work on securing the replacement we need. Thomas Lemar is likely, although he’d cost an enormous sum.
Coutinho should cost £150m+, in our minds. He’s exceptional, still only 25 and scores or assists in every game he plays.
The sad truth is there is no player we can buy who is at his level, but hopefully we can invest in a potentially phenomenal playmaker who can eventually become what Coutinho is now.
