Klopp goes back on word with Everton XI; Backup ace set for disappointment

We have no idea at all why Danny Ward wasn’t allowed to join Huddersfield on loan for this Premier League season.

He would have been their no.1 and we’d have been able to tell if he was up to Liverpool scratch.

But instead, he remained at Anfield to ‘battle it out’ with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius for the no.1 spot.

While Mignolet was given Premier League duties, Karius was selected in Europe, with the inference that Ward would get to play Domestic Cups. He started against Leicester in the Carabao, but with Liverpool losing, the Welshman has had to patiently wait until 2018 and the FA Cup to feature again…

But Klopp told today’s press-conference before Friday’s Everton clash that Karius will start and Ward will only be on the bench.

Barring injuries or suspensions, it doesn’t look like Ward will play again this season.

He looked a terrifically talented stopper last term in the Championship, but we’ve stunted his progression in 2017/18.

Surely he’ll at least be allowed a loan deal next term.
