Barcelona agree €160m Coutinho deal; player has said goodbyes at Liverpool

Barcelona are reportedly close to finally completing a deal that will see Philippe Coutinho move to the Nou Camp.

The long-running transfer saga is threatening to draw to a disappointing end for Liverpool, who had been hopeful of convincing the Brazilian to stay put until the end of the season.

After refusing to sell the playmaker prior to the current campaign, Liverpool have since softened their stance and somewhat paved the way for Coutinho to seal his dream move- for the right price.

Talks have accelerated in recent weeks, with Coutinho having set his heart on a January move rather than waiting until the summer.

A €160million deal has now been agreed between the two clubs, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has also taken to Twitter to suggest the deal is near to completion.

To lose Coutinho midway through the season would mark a crushing blow as the Reds vie for another top four finish and a strong effort in the Champions League knockout stages.

Fans can have no quarrels with the 25-year-old for his ambitions to play for Barcelona, but have good reason to feel frustrated with Liverpool for shifting from their insistence that he would not be sold.

If reports are true and a deal is close to being finalised, the priority task is working to wisely reinvest what marks an incredible transfer fee.

News of an agreement follow recent claims from Jurgen Klopp that Coutinho would be available for selection for Liverpool’s upcoming clash with Manchester City. That is now looking increasingly unlikely.
