Mason Holgate facing ban for homophobia after Firmino ‘racism’ accusation

The FA are currently investigating whether Roberto Firmino used racist language to Mason Holgate during Liverpool’s FA Cup victory over Everton last week…

After the young Englishman pushed our forward over the advertising boardings, Firmino visibly retaliated by shouting : ‘Es maluco, filho da puta!?’ which translated, means: ‘Are you crazy, you son of a b***h?’ but Holgate told referee Bobby Madley he’d been called the n-word and it remains to be seen whether something was said off camera – though the official didn’t hear anything and was standing right there.

Following the incident, there was suddenly attention on Holgate’s social media, as it turned out he’d sent multiple homophobic tweets a few years back.

The Times state Holgate can expect a ban for calling people on Twitter, “fag”, “faggotttttttttt” and “battyboy” in 2012 and 2013.

The defender was very young here, but a pro footballer should know better than to leave language like this available for the world on his social media channel.
