Klopp ‘still in for’ £90m attacker with a sweet left-foot – Simon Jones

Links to Thomas Lemar have been relatively quiet in recent weeks, despite Liverpool having cash to burn and a confirmed interest in Monaco’s 22-year-old.

But Simon Jones in the Daily Mail is claiming Jurgen Klopp is still keen on the attacking midfielder, who is rated by his club at £90m.

However, the report says Klopp wants to wait until the summer when he expects the Frenchman’s price to significantly drop.

This is disappointing for supporters who want to see the Coutinho money reinvested, but also understandable.

Lemar had a brilliant breakthrough campaign in 2016/17, but £90m is an outrageous sum that should only be spent on recognised world-class operators.

We think in this market, considering Lemar’s return this season is a below-average two goals and five assists, something closer to £50m is much fairer.

Still, we’d prefer Klopp took a punt on Riyad Mahrez, who’s far too good for a non-Champions League side and would bolster our attack enormously.

The Algerian prefers to play on the right, where Mo Salah currently stars, but with three competitions to navigate, strength in depth across the frontline is required.
