Duncan Castles’ claim that Liverpool were in for Gremio’s Luan was rubbish.

James Pearce confirmed as much in the Echo – and now the player has done the same.

The 24-year-old has committed his future to the Brazilian club, while telling supporters that there’s been no approach anyway.

“If I knew, I wouldn’t hide,” he said, reported in Football365. “I always said that I would leave it to Gremio and to my agent, and if they had something concrete, they should talk to me. No-one has come to me, so there is nothing.

“It has to be good for me, it has to be good for Gremio. I will not rush to want to leave soon, just like in the middle of last year.

“For the moment that we were through, I decided to stay. It was my decision alone. Now it’s the start of the season and I want to regain my form and rhythm to play. What I know is that I want to play the next game as soon as possible here at Gremio.”

Luan was rumoured as a potential Liverpool signing who could bolster our attack, with the exit of Coutinho leaving us a little short in midfield and on the left-hand side of attack.

Coutinho covered both these positions, so since his departure, the options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal have diminished.

However, it’s not looking like the German will use Liverpool’s substantial coffers to strengthen, much to the dismay of many supporters.

He’s got one week left to surprise us, anyway!
