Furious Van Dijk labels cheating Kane and Lamela ‘divers’

Virgil van Dijk was tremendous for Liverpool last night in our 2-2 draw with Spurs.

The Dutchman’s partnership with Dejan Lovren looked promising, and we’d be analysing his performance much more if it wasn’t for the nature of the goals we conceded.

Spurs missed a penalty given to them as well following a ‘foul’ on Harry Kane, but the same striker notched with the final kick of the game after van Dijk ‘fouled’ Erik Lamela.

Ref Jon Moss saw the incident, waved it away, but then changed his mind after advice from his assistant.

The same assistant tried to overrule the first pen, but Moss chose to ignore him on this occasion.

“I think it is a dive. You see him (Kane) diving clearly and no one is talking about it but I think it is a dive,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.

“There is a lot of discussion about whether it is offside, yes or no, but I think it was offside as well.

“You could just see him making that dive. The referee made his decision together with the linesman. It was good for us that it got saved.”

“Then I saw him [Lamela] coming in the end and I try and hold my leg in, he just pulled his body in front of the ball and he goes down,” he said.

“The ref said play on and I was very disappointed that the linesman said otherwise.

“I don’t think that is a penalty, same with the first one. That is also clearly not a penalty.”

The draw means we stay two points ahead of Tottenham, who are right on our tails. Chelsea are sandwiched between us in 4th, but will overtake if they beat Watford this evening.

Antonio Conte’s side are not in a good way at the moment though, and we’re actually more worried about Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
