LFC target given deadline to decide future; Bosman deal on cards

Despite missing out on Leon Goretzka, there’s still a possibility of Liverpool securing a German Schalke midfielder on a Bosman free transfer this summer!

Goretzka was a key target, but sadly decided to join Bayern Munich instead.

But fellow international Max Meyer, who is similarly out of contract, has yet to decide on his future.

According to Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel, a close friend of Jurgen Klopp, the club has given him until the end of March to either pen new terms of tell supporters he’s exiting.

“We are going into two and a half incredibly important months for us,” Christian Heidel told reporters.

“I want the focus to be on our goals in the league and cup and I want the other things to be resolved.

“Everything’s been said, now it must be decided. We can’t accept a decision three match days before the end of the season because we can’t plan [for the new season].”

The 22-year-old had always played in attacking midfield before this season, but has been moulded into a deep-lying midfielder who contributes defensively in 2017/18 – which actually makes him much more valuable to Liverpool as a potential signing.

We need a new no.6, or probably two in fact, with Emre Can set to depart on a Bosman himself.

Signing Napoli’s Jorginho for big money and then Meyer on a free would seem like a very smart way of dealing with Can’s exit and Jordan Henderson’s consistent injury woes.
