Simon Mignolet discusses Liverpool transfer request talk

Simon Mignolet has swiped at indications he is ready to seek a move away from Liverpool after losing his starting spot to Loris Karius.

The Belgian has endured a frustrating period on the sidelines since being demoted to second in the pecking order and subsequently held there by his teammate’s progression.

A summer departure has surfaced as a possible conclusion to Mignolet’s spell on Merseyside, although the former Sunderland man remains intent on fighting for his place in the side.

Discussing the prospect of requesting a move, he told Sky Sports: “I’ve had a few conversations with the manager already and we have spoken about numerous things.”

“I’m always open and he’s always open, you know how he is, but at this time it is not the time and place to do that.”

“It is never easy of course because I have never in my career spent time on the bench, but it is how it is and the only thing you can do is try to change it but it is never easy.”

The 30-year-old was temporarily replaced by Karius midway through the 2016/2017 season as Klopp sought to give the German an early transition into regular first team football with the Reds following his move from Mainz.
After a string of errors, Karius was then replaced by Mignolet who produced a bright finish to the campaign to inject fresh optimism into his Liverpool career.
A failure to carry that form into the current season granted Klopp the opportunity to revert to Karius in aid of building the confidence of his seemingly preferred no.1.
Mignolet will continue to work admirably behind the scenes as he always has, but Karius’ improvement and rumours of a new goalkeeper arriving suggests his time at the club is drawing to an end.
