Arsene Wenger comments on LFC target Wilshere’s future

Arsene Wenger wants Jack Wilshere to stay at the Emirates, although the Englishman has yet to sign a new contract.

His terms expire in the summer, where he’ll be allowed to join any club for free.

Liverpool are one of the clubs who’ve been mentioned as a potential destination, although to be fair, no concrete sources, like James Pearce or Chris Bascombe, have yet supported this.

Veteran Frenchman Wenger is in the process of encouraging the 26-year-old to put pen to paper.

Whether he’ll go down the Mesut Ozil route and extend or exit like Alexis Sanchez remains to be seen.

“I can only reassure him that I want him to stay and we make him a proposal and after that we also have to accept that Jack is at an age where he will have offers from somewhere else,” he told beIN Sports, cited in the Birmingham Mail, who name Liverpool as a suitor.

“Personally, I have put my weight in for him to stay, I want him to stay and I think he’s an Arsenal man.”

“(Gennaro) Gattuso said that he’s got the technique of a Spanish player and the character of an English player and I think that’s well judged and that’s why you want him to stay.”

Wilshere’s got serious amounts of talent, but despite enjoying a decent season, isn’t as effective as Jordan Henderson.

Check out these stats, based on the Premier League this term, as evidence:

If he could stay fit, we’d still suggest he’d be a smart Bosman signing, especially with Emre Can exiting, but Wilshere withdrew from England duty with another knee problem, which sadly sums him up.

Liverpool do not need to purchase a player who spends most of the time on the sidelines.

A holding midfielder is a necessity, but Wilshere shouldn’t be it.
