Roma President claims JW Henry was ‘bitching’ about Salah

Roma president James Pallotta is playing games ahead of tonight’s clash with AS Roma…

The Italian has been discussing his club’s £37m sale of Mo Salah last summer, which now looks like an incredible bargain following the Egyptian’s 41 goals.

But Pallotta reckons at the time, Liverpool’s owner John W Henry was ‘bitching’ about paying over the odds!

He told ESPN : “Well, when you look at it now, you can say it’s an unbelievable bargain. The issue at the time was that when (director of football) Monchi came in, Salah wanted to leave, he had a year left (Salah actually had two years remaining on his deal with Roma) on his contract so in another year you’d get nothing.

“He wanted to go back (to the Premier League) and prove himself, which he certainly has done. We can’t tell you that anybody else was calling for Salah at anywhere near that kind of price, so there’s a lot of teams that have missed out on the great play he’s had this year.

“I told him (Henry) that because he was sort of bitching a little about, “Did we overpay? I think we overpaid,” and I said “I’ll buy you lunch.”

In fairness, it wasn’t like we had to beat the whole of Europe for the 25-year-old’s signature…

He’d notched 19 goals in all competitions in 2016/17, which is actually a brilliant tally.

Obviously it pales into comparison to what he’s achieved this season in England, with Salah now recognised as one of the best players on the planet.

If he fires us to Champions League glory, it’ll be recognised as one of the most iconic transfers of recent times.
