For a 21-year-old, this is mighty impressive, as his his ability to thread incisive passes through to onrushing strikers.

Maddison would fit naturally in Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 formation as one of the roaming no.8s, either side of the anchorman.

His age and potential means he could thrive under the German’s guidance, too.

Stylistically, Maddison reminds us of Kevin de Bruyne, although he’s obviously a huge way off being as good as the phenomenal Belgian at the moment.

Liverpool undeniably need midfield improvements this summer, despite Naby Keita’s confirmed arrival at the end of June.

Our current injury crisis and the lack of options at Klopp’s disposal, as well as the fact Emre Can is leaving on a Bosman, proves as much.
