James Pearce has his say on Nabil Fekir deal – and he hasn’t ruled it out…

James Pearce is probably the most trusted Liverpool correspondent in the business.

And as a result, he has a habit of quashing the nonsense rumours that circle the internet on an almost weekly basis!

Tellingly though, he has refused to rule out Liverpool’s interest in Nabil Fekir, something he would have done if we didn’t have any!

Yesterday, French outlet RMC sent Reds into overdrive with a report that claimed a deal with Lyon had been agreed for Lyon’s superb attacking midfielder.

It’s not true, but clearly has an element of truth in it, or Pearce would have rubbished it immediately.

Instead, he noted Sadio Mane’s pleasure in the rumour in the Echo, stating that as of yet, discussions are not at an advanced stage.

Pearce also quoted Fekir, who has been asked about the links:

“I heard these rumours,” he said. “For now, I am in Lyon. There are still two games left and we are preparing for them in the best way possible.”

So…

Where are we now?

In terms of announcing Nabil Fekir, nowhere! But it’s clear a player with his skill-set would be a valuable asset at Anfield and Pearce’s ambiguous report suggests stuff is happening in the background.

We just hope that if and when the 24-year-old joins, he’ll be representing the European champions.
