This is good news.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed that surgery on his knee injury has been a success, meaning he’ll now begin the long process of rehabilitation.

Our midfielder put this snap on Instagram from his hospital bed – along with the caption: ‘Watching the boys in Rome last week taking us one step closer to something very special. Knee surgery was a success and the hard work has already begun.’

Ox was in sensational form, but left the field early in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final with AS Roma, and his season (and World Cup) is over as a result.

Early reports said he’d be back for the 2018/19 pre-season, but we think this one is a waiting game.

We just hope he’s fully fit before next term, as we’ve seen what happened with Adam Lallana this term when a player misses the intense summer training regime.

He’s simply not been able to get match fit and offer us anything – making just two starts in the Premier League altogether.
