AC Milan director disrespects Virgil van Dijk with stupid comments

AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli has oddly name-dropped Virgil van Dijk when discussing his own side’s star central defender Alessio Romagnoli.

When asked about the potential sale of the 23-year-old, Mirabelli suggested Romagnoli is a better defender than our Dutchman and therefore would cost plenty more than the £75m we paid in January.

“Romagnoli is one of the best defenders in the world…” he told Calciomercato. “If Van Dijk cost €80m, how much can Alessio be worth?!”

While van Dijk is preparing for the Champions League Final against Real Madrid, having had an enormous part to play in our run through the Last 16, quarters and semis, Romagnoli’s season is over with AC Milan finishing sixth in Serie A – which qualifies them for the Europa League.

There is absolutely no way we’d swap van Dijk for any centre-back on the planet and certainly not Romagnoli, to be honest.

It’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp turned down the opportunity to buy central defenders last summer and instead insisted upon waiting until van Dijk was available.

The 26-year-old is a colossus and in our opinion, as crucial to our long-term success as Mo Salah or Roberto Firmino.
