Klopp ready to turn to surprise option to solve Liverpool problem position

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to go rogue and *not* sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

According to a surprise claim by the Liverpool Echo, Danny Ward could instead be promoted to challenge Loris Karius for that starting spot as Simon Mignolet looks set to leave.

While this seems a tad risky, it’s worth noting that the club do still seem to be considering their options after a move for Roma star Alisson went cold.

The Echo merely state promoting Ward is one option Klopp is prepared to take, so it will be interesting to see how this particular saga pans out.

It might be unthinkable to some fans right now that a big name wouldn’t be brought in to replace Karius, but it’s worth remembering that the German had a pretty solid season until the Champions League final.

Klopp likes to trust his players and he’s clearly seen something in Karius, so don’t be too surprised if we do end up with him as number one again next season.

That said, Ward could also turn out to be a surprise package, and it’s intriguing that our manager sees enough in him as well to consider not entering the market for a new ‘keeper.
