LFC set to do business with Olympiakos for winger

Liverpool are close to offloading Lazar Markovic for the final time…

The Serbian winger looks set to join Olympiakos on loan, according to Turkish outlet Milliyet, who are reasonably reliable.

Markovic’s contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, meaning he’ll be on a free by the time his temporary deal in Greece expires and will be able to freely choose his permanent club.

The 24-year-old has been one of the biggest failures of modern Liverpool transfer history, it’s fair to say.

He arrived in 2014 with huge expectations after we paid £20m to secure one of Europe’s most promising young attackers, but he simply never lived up to his potential.

Loan deals at Fenerbahce, Sporting, Hull City and Anderlecht have all been uninspiring – and since Jurgen Klopp took charge in 2015, Markovic hasn’t made a single appearance in any competitive game – showing exactly what our manager thinks of his ability to perform in red.

Hopefully under the German’s guidance, transfers like the Markovic one are a thing of the past, and everyone who signs has been thoroughly checked: medically, professionally, in terms of their personality and their football.

It appears Markovic didn’t really tick any of the four boxes.

But we wish him well in Greece and hope he eventually shows what he’s capable of.
