Liverpool have ‘concrete interest’ in signing £40m forward

Leon Bailey has refuelled fading speculation linking him to a move to the Premier League by revealing ‘concrete interest’ from England.

The Bayer Leverkusen star has surfaced as one of Europe’s sought-after prospects on the back of his 12 goals and six assists in 34 games across all competitions last season.

A lasting impression in the Bundesliga at just 20 years of age has generated excitement over the Jamaican-born forward’s eligibility to play for England.

His sparkling debut season in Germany has supposedly also warranted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, with Bailey claiming to have been subject to interest from both.

Discussing the Premier League pair, Bailey told Kicker : “There’s concrete interest.”

“What I can say is that my full focus is on developing myself as a young player, and that’s what I’ll focus on. If a club wants me, my management and Bayer 04 will take care of it.”

Bailey was joined by Malcom, who recently joined Barcelona from Bordeaux, and Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic on a shortlist of Liverpool targets revealed by the Daily Mail earlier this summer.

Despite the Reds’ alleged admiration for Bailey, it seems unlikely the club will be making any further additions before Thursday’s deadline.

Any last-gasp dip back into the market is sure to be in pursuit of an orthodox attacking midfield replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool are not, however, expected to reignite a move for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir having seen a £53million deal collapse at the beginning of June.

Jurgen Klopp has recently sung the praises of long-term target Pulisic, although any big-money move for the American may not arrive until next year.
