Liverpool’s Champions League squad & why Trent/Gomez aren’t included explained

Liverpool yesterday released our squad for the Champions League Group Stages, in which we will face PSG, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.

First up we host the French giants, before traveling to Italy and facing the Serbs back to back.

As last season’s finalists, we’d hope to progress, although need positive results in our first two matches to ensure it happens.

Suarez has risked the wrath of United fans with cheeky comments…

Lazar Markovic has not been included, meaning he’s basically a professional Melwood table-tennis player until January at the earliest. Divock Origi however has got the nod and we might soon see the Belgian on the bench.

Fans might be surprised to see neither England international Joe Gomez or Trent Alexander-Arnold in the mix, but it’s because they’re eligible for the B-list (which enables as many young, homegrown players as you like) because they were born after January 1 1997.
