Steven Gerrard has waxed lyrical about Roberto Firmino, ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League tie with Chelsea today.
Our legendary former captain has claimed Firmino is the ‘key to it all,’ and declared his ‘absolute genius,’ to boot.
Gerrard was speaking with Jermaine Jenas on BBC 5Live and was quick to praise the strength in depth of Liverpool’s attack, too.
After all, Daniel Sturridge has three goals this season and isn’t in the starting XI, while Divock Origi and Dom Solanke are both internationals for Belgium and England respectively and are struggling to make the bench.
Firmino’s pressing and defensive work-rate would make him integral to our side even without goals, but last term he notched 27 in all competitions and has three already this term.
His importance to Liverpool is blindingly obvious and the footballing world is finally beginning to appreciate what he offers.
