Joe Gomez on his injury setbacks and future aims

Joe Gomez has revealed that he wants to reach the top echelons of world football after his electric start to the new campaign.

He has overcome previous injury struggles to be among the Reds’ star performers so far this season.

Via England’s official website, Gomez said: “It feels like a fresh start for me this season. It’s no secret that I’ve had setbacks in the last few years, but I’ve done my best to try and bounce back from them and make things right.

“It’s all behind me now so I just want to keep my head down, stay on top of things and I just want to keep going, keep learning and progressing at the same time.

“I need to keep pushing and learning and hopefully be in that category, among the best. Being at Liverpool helps me with that, because you’ve got to be at that standard and if you aren’t then you won’t play.”

Gomez was exceptional as England clung on to a three-goal lead against Spain on Monday night, just as he has been all season for the Reds.

If he continues to perform at this level, he can make a century of appearances for his country and many more for us.
