Sadio Mane taken to hospital; but stat shows Liverpool shouldn’t worry

Liverpool’s no.10 Sadio Mane has broken his thumb while on international duty with Senegal and was taken to hospital yesterday as a result.

Ian Doyle of the Echo, among others, confirmed the news on Twitter.

Our initial reaction to hearing another key player had picked up an injury while away on international duty was gut-wrenching, but in reality, there’s not too much to worry about.

Journalist Ben Dinnery claims that the only players who’ve missed fixtures with thumb injuries since 2012 are goalkeepers and that Mane should be fine to play against Huddersfield.

We very much hope this is the case…

Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk both got injured on international duty and with James Milner already suffering a hamstring problem, it seemed like Liverpool were about to enter an extremely inconvenient injury crisis.

Mane is fine though, while Salah and van Dijk should be ready for the weekend as well.

We’re not sure if all will start, but we naturally trust Jurgen Klopp to make the right call.
