After a dismal performance against Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool were handed a boost as Napoli drew 1-1 with PSG in the other match in Group C of the Champions League.

The result means the Reds head into matchday five second in the group, level on points with Napoli, and one ahead of PSG.

Klopp: Atmosphere not to blame for dismal showing

If the Reds beat PSG in Paris in their next game, and Napoli dispose of Red Star in Italy as expected, Jurgen Klopp’s side will go through despite their poor performance in Serbia.

Whatever happens on matchday five, Liverpool will face Napoli at Anfield on matchday six. Even if they lose in Paris, a win of more than two goals in their final game of the group would see the Reds progress.

A draw in Paris would mean a victory of any kind against Napoli on the final day would be enough, assuming Napoli take three points against Red Star. Should Napoli slip up, the Reds could find themselves needing only a point to progress at their expense, but that seems unlikely given Red Star’s away record.

There is still a long way to go in this group – and the Reds are still more than capable of getting through.
