Liverpool are keeping a watchful eye on Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar, according to reports coming out of France.

The midfielder broke into the Lyon first team towards the latter stages of the 2016/2017 campaign, before making 44 senior appearances across all competitions the following season.

Aouar has since maintained a prominent role for the French side to play in every game so far this term, including 15 out of a possible 17 starts.

A superb run of form has already seen him register an assist in each of Lyon’s last three Champions League group stage contests, as well as take his season goal tally to five with three in each of his last three league games.

Writing on his Twitter page, RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi claims Aouar is being monitored by both Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 20-year-old starlet is likely to demand a hefty fee from any potential suitors, with his current contract at the club running until 2023.

On the basis of his impressive statistics, he fits the bill as the kind of goalscoring midfielder Liverpool would certainly benefit from. Just how real the Reds’ interest is, however, remains to be seen.

Christian Pulisic meanwhile continues to be tipped as a target for the club in light of his stuttering negotiations over a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund.

The USA international has been deemed an ideal long-term option to fill the central playmaker void left by Philippe Coutinho following his January move to Barcelona.
