Bayern Munich forward almost certain to miss Liverpool clash claim Bild

Bayern Munich look set to be without Arjen Robben for both legs of their Champions League Round of 16 clash with Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been sidelined since November with a thigh problem, missing nine Bundesliga fixtures and 12 games in total across all competitions.

It had been suggested the 35-year-old would have recovered in time to help his side in Europe, although that now appears increasingly unlikely.

German outlet Sport Bild claim Robben has suffered further setbacks in recent weeks and is now expected to miss both the home and away ties.

Bayern doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt told Bild: “It’s still not good. We try everything, but at the moment it is not so good. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the problem, that they do not know exactly what it is. It’s really difficult.”

It meanwhile remains to be seen whether goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will return in goal for Bayern when they play at Anfield on Tuesday.

The German has missed his side’s last three games after suffering a thumb injury in training, however did declare himself fit ahead of Friday’s clash with Augsburg.

Jurgen Klopp faces injury troubles of his own, with Dejan Lovren still nursing the hamstring issue that saw him substituted in the sixth minute of the Reds’ FA Cup defeat to Wolves on January 7.

With Virgil van Dijk suspended and Joe Gomez still out with a fractured leg, Liverpool now only have one fit recognised senior centre-back available in Joel Matip.
