Paul Merson has made a ridiculous selection in LFC/MUFC combined XI

Sky Sports pundits have all picked their combined Liverpool and Manchester United XIs ahead of the weekend tie – and obviously – Paul Merson has dropped a clanger!

The former Arsenal star has, without irony, named Luke Shaw ahead of Andy Robertson, the Premier League’s best left-back, in the side.

He hasn’t explained why; just said ‘he’d pick Shaw,’ so we sadly don’t get to see Merson’s reasoning!

Potential Liverpool XI v Manchester United, as Klopp faces massive midfield decision

Robbo had one of the only poor games of his entire Liverpool career against Bayern Munich, but we still kept a clean-sheet…

Since his arrival, he has been unbelievably consistent and head and shoulders ahead of anything else the Premier League has to offer.

The entirety of Merson’s team is as follows: De Gea; Trent, Van Dijk, Matip, Shaw; Pogba, Wijnaldum; Mane, Firmino, Salah, Rashford

We’re not entirely sure playing Bobby in a three-man midfield is wise, but we suppose he could do the job if asked!

In our opinion, the only United player who walks into our XI right now is Pogba, and it’ll be up to the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho to keep the Frenchman quiet on Sunday.
