Reported Liverpool target hires new agent after failed January transfer

Adrien Rabiot has seemingly stepped up his efforts to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season after being frozen out at the French club.

The midfielder has made no secret of his desire to move on from the Ligue 1 champions, rejecting all of the club’s contract offers thus far.

PSG now appeared resigned to losing him on a free transfer upon the expiry of his current deal at the end of the 2018/2019 campaign.

Barcelona had initially been leading contenders to pick up the 23-year-old, although have since reportedly withdrawn their offer.

Liverpool and Tottenham have also been tipped as potential suitors in recent months, with GFFN suggesting that Anfield would be Rabiot’s preferred destination should a move to England be on the cards.

Rabiot has now terminated his mother Veronique’s role as his agent after she failed to secure him a switch to the Camp Nou, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The report goes on to explain that Barcelona would be unwilling to reignite their pursuit unless Rabiot’s new representation approach them.

He certainly looms as an intriguing option for Liverpool to consider as they seek more of a cut-price transfer window compared to previous summer spending sprees.

There remains a glaring need for contingency plans in regards to an ageing James Milner and an Adam Lallana that has struggled for fitness over the past two seasons.

Jurgen Klopp is meanwhile likely to target another central defender in light of his current injury woes at the back, as well as a viable backup to his front three.

It may not be quite as expensive as recent years, but the upcoming window could prove just as busy on Merseyside.
