(Video) Van Dijk on how LFC will deal with Lionel Messi

Liverpool’s victory over FC Porto last night means we have a semi-final with all the almighty Barcelona at the end of April to look forward to.

The first leg is away and a week later we welcome the Catalans to Anfield – for the right to a spot in the Champions League Final against either Spurs or Ajax.

Whoever gets through our leg will be heavy favourites to win the competition.

But before we can worry about that, there’s the issue of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Coutinho and the rest of Ernesto Valverde’s jaw-dropping lineup.

Messi, in our opinion, is the greatest player to ever grace a football field and keeping him quiet is going to be crucial to our chances of progression.

Virgil van Dijk was asked about the team’s plans against the Argentine, and was fairly coy!

“I don’t know! We’ll see… It’s gonna be a great matchup. We’re just very happy to be in the semi-finals. That’s all I can say,” he told Viasport.

“It’s never one v one – it’s never just me against a particular striker – it’s all of us. Us against everyone!

“We can defend well. It’s going to be very hard. I think he’s the best player in the world. But, we’ll see!”

You can watch the whole video below.

It won’t be a base of ‘Messi v van Dijk’ as their no.10 usually drops so deep that he’ll up against Fabinho more often – but you can guarantee the media will portray it as such!
