Ex-Leicester man makes insane Van Dijk claim as former teammate interests Manchester City

Former Leicester City midfielder Vicente Iborra says if Harry Maguire moves to Manchester City this summer, he could have as big an impact on Pep Guardiola’s team as Virgil van Dijk has had on the Reds.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Iborra said: “He is a great player. He’s very powerful, with good balance, great at bringing the ball out and he can score goals.

“He had a great World Cup and is a super footballer. His transfer to Manchester City could be like Van Dijk’s to Liverpool.”

Maguire’s entire reputation appears to be based on what he did for England at the World Cup in 2018 – largely against limited opposition.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has transformed a Liverpool defence since signing from Southampton and won the Champions League having dominated the likes of Harry Kane and Lionel Messi this season. He’s right up there in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or.

Maguire is a decent enough player, but the lavish praise he receives is not really warranted. No doubt he can improve under the guidance of Guardiola, but Leicester value him at £80 million – a quite ridiculous price-tag.

If anything, it just goes to show how much of a bargain Van Dijk was, even at £75 million.
