“What a player!”: Respected European football pundit raves about reported Reds target

Don Hutchison has offered his opinion on Samuel Chukwueze, the Villarreal wide-man who the Reds have been linked with several times over the last few months.

The 20-year-old was Man of the Match for his country Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles beat South Africa to reach the semi-finals of the competition. He scored the opening goal in the quarter-final clash and impressed with his overall showing.

With blistering pace, silky skills and an eye for goal, it certainly makes sense that the Reds would have an interest in the Villarreal winger.

Former Reds man Hutchison, who has received many plaudits for his excellent punditry on European football for both the BBC and Sky Sports, was full of praise.

He tweeted in response to another Twitter user’s comment: “What a player mate. English clubs won’t have the balls to go for him. I’ve told loads of scouts/coaches Etc about him! Going right to the top.”

The only potential reason we can think of for not signing Chukwueze this summer is that he is in the same boat as Sadio Mane – he too is still at AFCON and would probably miss the start of the new season.

Chukwueze is a name to keep an eye on, though – he could be one the Reds maintain an interest in for the future.
