Neville: Injuries could cost Liverpool the Premier League title

Liverpool’s biggest fan Gary Neville has admitted that he thinks Reds are going to win the Premier League title this season, and cites Manchester City’s short-comings as the main reason why.

Jurgen Kopp’s men have gone eight for eight in the league so far this season, and bare a few shaky moments, they look near-impossible to defeat.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have already lost twice, to Norwich City and Wolves, and Neville believes other teams will now attack a vulnerable City.

“I don’t think Liverpool can lose it from here,” the former Manchester United man told Sky Sports (via the Express). “It’s thirty games to go – I did the Everton [versus] City game last Sunday and they’re not right.

“They set such a high standard. They’re not right, they’re not like they were and Liverpool matched them barring a hair’s breath last season. So if City crop below that…

“Liverpool are definitely big favourites, but if [Virgil] van Dijk gets injured, [Mo] Salah gets injured, all of a sudden it changes again.”

Aside from the fact that Neville sounds absolutely heartbroken, he does make a valid point about van Dijk and Salah – if one of our star players gets injured, what do we do?

Fair enough, Adrian has done an impeccable job standing in for Alisson, but that can’t be expected of every member of our squad.

I’m not so confident that Joe Gomez could fill in for Trent Alexander-Arnold or Divock Origi for Bobby Firmino. Our depth is better than it has been in recent years, but it definitely is our weak area.

Hopefully we don’t find out, and our Gary is right! 😉
