  1. Frank go calculate how many trophies and how much Fergie spent in the first 5 years and base it on the average amount per player.

You might want to check out the book by Paul Tomkins called Dynasty it will open your eyes.

  2. It will be a pointless exercise Antoine. Transfer fees were so much lower in Fergies first five years that the result can only come out in his favor. I’m sure that Dynasty will be a good read so I will try to find it out here. From what I read about it however it seems to be mostly about the past. I’m much more interested in today and the future.

  3. No Frank what you do is take the average transfer and base it on the most expensive player.

Eg. if the transfer for Torres was 25 million and the most expensive transfer in the Premiership when Torres was signed was 30 million then Torres’ price is 0.83 of the high.

If Cantona cost 5 million and the highest transfer fee was 4 million then the price is 1.25 of the previous high.

You add up all the purchases this way, you add up all the sales this way and then you will have the figures to compare.

  4. Hell mate, that’s a huge amount of research that needs to be done. Keep in mind however that in those early years a large number of United players came through the clubs development system so I would suggest that the amount of money spent on transfer fees as a percentage of the total would have been far smaller than today. Remember the two Nevilles, Whiteside, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Beckham and many others that I cannot think of offhand. Even Cantona at 1.2, Solskjær at 1.5 million and Irwin at 600,000 were absolute bargain buys. Honestly Antoine, there can not possibly be any comparison.

  5. Just as a matter of interest Antoine, I found this website which lists all the deals that Ferguson has done in his time at Old Trafford http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/6003/transfer.html

Compared to Rafas 70 in and 72 out (142 Deals) during his first 5 years, Ferguson brought in 21 and sold 29 (50 Deals)

Fergusons deals worked out to a nett outlay of just under 19 million pounds while Rafa’s nett was nearly 82 million.

As mentioned earlier, comparing the amount spent between the two is not realistic because of the high inflation of transfer fees but a difference of 63million is a hell of an amount as is 142 to 50 player deals.

  6. I’ve seen in French Newspaper that Alonso is going to sign today or tomorrow In real… Is it true?? =(
