Stoke 1 – Liverpool 1 (Disappointed by the result not by the performance)

You wonder if that injury time effort by Kuyt would have gone in if there will be cries for Rafa’s head right now?

We already knew that it was going to be though and at this point I will take the point, it is going to be a rough 5 months but we need to stick together and support our players and manager.

I am very disappointed with the goal we conceded in the last few seconds but that is football, it is a cruel sport.

And YES that was a clear penalty that Lee Mason denied us and to add insult to injury he yellow carded Lucas.

My M.O.T.M. was Krygiakos, he played a very good game defensively shutting out Tuncay and scored Liverpool’s first league goal for the year and for the decade.

  1. I pretty much agree but you have to watch Stoke’s goal. It is simply embarrassing that profession footballers cannot mark properly on a corner. 13 of 26 goals against have come from set pieces. I slow motioned the goal and you see 2 completely unmarked Stoke players inside the 6. At the same time 4 Liverpool defenders are outside the 6 and essentially marking 1 man. As soon as the ball went over their head they all turned and started up field. When the ball was played back Carra had to leave the near post to defend one of 2 Stoke players open. The second player thought scored.

In the first half Stoke almost scored on the long throw in. Same basic situation. We were lucky. Stoke player simply powered his way past Insua and Kuyt. Should have been a Stoke goal.

WTF is wrong with us? Is it the zone defense? Is it lack of skill or heart? Rafa should spend the next week of training practicing cornerkicks.

  2. Those calling for Rafa’a head:

    1 bad season in 5.
No money for investment, wheeling and dealing has become the Liverpool way of late
Missed out on many players over the years as Rick Parry was pretty poor in the market
Loads of in-fighting relating to the owners
Lost 2 great players that we wanted to keep (Hyypia, Alonso), who haven’t been properly replaced and the money gained from Alonso hasn’t even been given to Rafa – what happened to the missing money between the £30 million for Alonso and whatever it cost for Aquillani?)
Champions League winners, FA Cup winners, Champions League finalists
Dreadful injuries, having to start with fringe players
Dreadful decisions going our way all season; beachball, final-minute goals, etc. (See Lee Mason’s 3 wrong decisions on us later, 2 penalties, 1 incorrectly given corner for them)
Anyone playing Stoke on a wet, miserable day on a Saturday in January, with the pitch completely cut up (because Stoke had trained on it 3 times this week) would find this a nightmare.

Luck and confidence is not with us at the moment and this season is pretty much written off. However, we can still get 4th spot, then regroup for next season.

    Gutted!
