I know this is a Liverpool Blog, but….

I was wondering, do you all like me watch other football matches to laugh at the losers if it’s a club we hate? What I’m getting at, if there isn’t a tie into Liverpool do you watch to watch the match or watch the match to laugh at other people’s failures?

I know that’s quite harsh, and in fact I should be ashamed for saying something like that. What got me thinking is the Inter match today. While you don’t want to root for their manager, because he’s an utter twat, he did take out those babies Chelsea. And if Liverpool can’t be in the CL, can we root for teams we hate to lose? Now we just need those jerks in Manchester to lose and it will be safe. In other words, since we have such a long history in Europe, we couldn’t root for any team right now. We just have to root for the other English teams to go out. I know people want to root for their country, but I’m American, and we don’t play good football.

If we had better players (well not all our players are below average), we’d be this far. And it would be fun for me to see them taking AC Milan (the most overrated club in the world) out of Europe. Or it would be fun to see us take out Real Madrid.

So readers, are you rooting against English clubs, our rivals, or just watching for the fun of it?

  1. I think your the one that comes off like a twat.
I think it’s in poor form to root against others just because you can’t be there. You come off like a baby. Certainly you have now angered the football Gods!
I’m a Reds fan and will watch all CL games. And while I took some satisfaction from the Chelsea loss, I root for the Reds and only the Reds.

  2. A true red would never want Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal to win in the Champions League!!!!! Just because their from England???? Come on guys.

  3. I always root against our rivals no matter what the circumstances. I enjoy competitive football, but enjoy our rivals being embarrassed and knocked out of other competitions even more.

  4. One thing I don’t do is laugh at opponents. Not that I root for them either. I tend to have certain Euro sympathies, but NOT when they play us. While a soccer fan in general, I would never root for a team coached by SAF, Mourinho (overrated egomaniac) or Ancelotti (ungracious spirit following Istanbul) but maybe Wenger (a bit neutral on the Frenchman). My fav other’s Barcelona.

  5. Obviously no longer have any serious interest in the Champions League. I do however always wish poor luck on the twat from Portugal that used to manage Chelsea although I had no wish to see Chelsea succeed either.
I console myself in seeing him lose further on in the competition which is surely harder to take.

  6. Sad that mate! I love watching all the games doesn’t matter whos playing! I watch the champions league because it features some of best teams around so you see some of the best football! But then I’d rather english clubs do well in Europe as a whole! Don’t be giving me all that “true red” shite.

  7. This website is great, I played along the entire match, was very engaging. Made watching the match on the computer all the more enjoyable.
