HJC issues statement regarding LFC’s non acknowledgement

Posted by

The Hillsbough Justice Campaign issued a statement this morning regarding the change to how the Hillsborough flames are displayed on the new Warrior shirts. I really don’t understand why the club keeps ignoring the HJC.

HJC Statement:

The HJC are aware of an amendment to the new 2012/13 kit, which has recently been launched. We have also noted that the Hillsborough flames and “96” will now appear on the back of the shirt, “after consultation” with family members”.
We can confirm that no bereaved families of the HJC were contacted or consulted. Indeed the first we were aware of this was via the Supporters Committee Minutes of their March meeting.Once again LFC has chosen to ignore the HJC and their families. The continued refusal of the club to acknowledge the HJC is insensitive, divisive and deplorable. 96 is more than a number. LFC would do well to remember that.

Later The HJC tweeted the following from their official Twitter: @HJC_Official

To clarify: HJC’s issue is not with the design of the shirt. Our concerns are with the fact that, despite LFC stating that families were consulted during the design process, no families within the HJC were ever contacted.

  1. ME ME ME ME! look at me, give it a rest will ya!!! The club decides what goes on the shirt, no one else! Yes they need justice for Hillsborough! But for ***** Sake! The flames and 96 are still on the shirt! They havent been removed!

    1. I think the point is Jon, that it originally it was missed off, which is a disgrace. Thank god it is in now. It should never be left off or forgotten. Those fans gave their life for the club and then club needs to be a bit more aware.

  2. Little to be whinging about, we are all on the same side, LFC always acknowledged the people who’s live were lost, they are and always are what matters, and if if this is LFC’s way of showing respect and loyalty to the dead then so be it. Let’s not be making arguments over nothing but your organisation’s apparent zest for fame. They in no way disgrace or dishonour the dead soul’s, it’s a nice gesture and one in which frankly there was no need to consult you over.

  3. I think it looks good on the back of the shirt and commemorates the 96 very well as your left in no doubt why the flames are there.

  4. Wow can’t believe they’re making such a big thing out of it. Liverpool do everything they can for the HJC. Any other club in the world would’ve long forgotten about the 96 Liverpool sing their name every week and hold an annual memorial.”families of the HJC were contacted or consulted” Does the HJC think they own Liverpool FC?

  5. sorry but i agree with jon, its not like the flames and 96 have been removed, they are on there, i am very happy with the kit, i think this statement is BS to be honest.

  6. I think the comment above me justifies everything, i am pretty sure that most of the fans would support his comment. The club is concerned & thats why 14 April we appealed not to play, Give it break guys and dont start questioning everything. We have the 96 in our hearts and will remain forever. YNWA

  7. I think they’re more obvious now and it makes reference to the 96, rather than just the flames, which to be honest, a lot of people don’t know the significance of. I think it’s a considerate touch to a great new kit.

  8. It would not have taken long for the club to have had the good manners to inform the HJC.As for giving it a rest – when there is a full disclosure of the documents and a proper examination the disgraceful behaviour of the South Yorkshire police with names named then the campaign can finally be put to rest – interesting don’t you think that the commercial imperative of selling shirts seems more important than anything else. HJC have issued a pretty dignified and restrained response if you ask me.

  9. I don’t know if it calls for such adjectives like ‘insensitive, divisive and deplorable’. If ‘some’ families were consulted, it should be good enough and not important which group they belong to. To view them from a group’s perspective would be divisive on whose part? And why should LFC be obligated to consult regarding kit designs. I think it’s highly respectable on their part that they consulted some.

The flames are beautifully placed and the ’96’ between them so clearly depicts the remembrance.

I didn’t lose anyone on 15.04.89 so may be it’s not my place to comment but I’ve supported the fights and what I say above is just what I think and can be wrong.

  10. A staggering statement from HJC. Very surprised and disappointed to read this. Is it not so much more poignant that the 96 has its own place on the shirt? Come on guys..

  11. this “Official” statement is not even credited to anyone. Its not on their site – nothing. No quotes by a spokesperson either. Odd.

  12. Most ridiculous statement I’ve ever read! Seems they’re just power hungry and annoyed they weren’t part of making the kit. Like Rob said it was considerate of WS and makes a bigger reference to the 96. HJC should be happy about it I thought they would’ve been tbh..

  13. I just Ђåvε̲ a question to ask….’Since when did HJC become part ☀̤̣̈̇f †нє administrators ίπ LFC?’ With all due respect,we Ђåvε̲ those 96 ίπ our hearts but there’s N̶̲̥̅̊☺ need making a big deal out ☀̤̣̈̇f this newely designed kit….YNWA

  14. Silly statement, hope it was said in the heat of the moment. Our club has more class than that, Liverpool FC has not and will not ever forget the 96. Having the ’96’ there is a lot better than just the flames

  15. The 96 people who died in and after the game in sheffield
will never walk alone and always in our thoughts and hearts, one day they will get justice we the fans familys and club just need to stick it out, truth comes out of love
and love comes from an endless source and will always win.
Forget the shirt its not that important its the actions and deeds that really count and for me liverpool fc have done right by the 96 and i am sure will continue to do so.
    Dont buy the sun!

  16. I think everyone is missing the point! The only thing HJC are annoyed about is the statement that they were consulted when they weren’t! If Liverpool didn’t say that there would be no problem. HJC wouldn’t expect to be involved or consulted on kit design!

  17. Let’s be clear here. Liverpool honour the Hillsborough tragedy every year and have built a permanent memorial to the dead outside the stadium. The HJC campaign is becoming over the top and is more of a fame seeking organisation than a campaign for justice these days. The club does not have, nor should it have to consult them over whether to put anything on the kit. It is permanently enshrined outside the Liverpool stadium and remembered with a service every year. How dare the HJC determine what the club does with the bloody kit as well. The club always has and always will respect the victims and their families but they can not allow a campaign for justice to be allowed to manage the Liverpool business too. There are two totally sepreate issues here and the HJC are making the club about them and nothing else. If it wasn’t about the statement they claim didn’t involve them they would find another reason to spout up and be heard. Let us always honour and remember the 96 and let us always have respect for their families but, never let them be allowed to run the club or ask to be consulted on every decision the club makes. A lot of people died in the Bradford disaster too, however you never hear about it in the press because they know their club has always done right by the victims and their families. They don’t need an organisation like HJC reminding them every day what happened and they don’t seek publicity in the same way HJC does. Even when justice is brought to pass for THE VICTIMS of Hillsborough, HJC will continue to hog the limelight at every opportunity in the future because that is what they are becoming about now. This is about HJC saying they have been victimised and lied about, they could have dealt with the matter without public or media involvement but chose to go the publicity route because it gives them the limelight as usual. They always have to have a voice in the clubs decision making.

  18. Ben,

I think that you were the only one to have actually read HJC comments. All the other muppets that have commented obviously didnt.

Please read this paragraph very slowly so that you may understand what it states, not what you think it states.

To clarify: HJC’s issue is not with the design of the shirt. Our concerns are with the fact that, despite LFC stating that families were consulted during the design process, no families within the HJC were ever contacted.

    1. Bazza listen carefully mate go up to the comment by jim (thats me)and read it slowly and let the info in there sink into that lump of grey meat that sits in your tiny skull, and then come back on and apologise i dont like being called a muppet by someone who is a totall bellend!
      dont buy the sun!!

  19. The kits could be purple with orange tigers on them and still no one would ever forget the 96.

  20. To Ben and Bazza this article was originally posted without the UPDATED segment (Later The HJC tweeted the following from their official Twitter) so yes we hadn’t read HJC comments in full. Your the muppet

  21. We all support the HJC…. but this is ridiculous. Whoever released this statement should have some respect for the club, because the club remembers the 96 after all these years and still have the flames on the kit. Kit design doesnt concern the HJC in any way
